How to Make Perfect Stovetop Popcorn Every Time

In the world of snacks, few things rival the simple pleasure of popcorn. Whether you're settling in for a movie night or just craving a crunchy treat, popcorn just always seems to sound good. But why settle for the pre-packaged microwave variety when you can easily make the perfect stovetop popcorn at home? It’s a surprisingly healthy snack and can be made for mere pennies.

The Perfect Stovetop Popcorn Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels

  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil or other high-heat oil (lard would also be delicious)

  • Toppings of choice (see recommendations below)

Instructions:

  1. Heat a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.

  2. Add the coconut oil to the pot and allow it to melt completely.

  3. Once the oil is hot, add a few popcorn kernels to the pot and cover with a lid. You’ll know it’s time to add the rest when small bubbles start to form around the kernels.

  4. Once you see bubbles appear, add the remaining popcorn kernels to the pot in an even layer.

  5. Cover the pot with the lid and shake gently to distribute the kernels evenly. Continue to shake occasionally as it pops to prevent burning.

  6. Once the popping slows to 2-3 seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat.

  7. Carefully transfer the popcorn to a large bowl and season with salt to taste.
